The pilgrim road is a dangerous one. So the Psalmist asks the question: Where will I look for help? Who will keep me safe?
And this is perhaps the deepest reason we set out on pilgrimage: we realize that we are not home.
And this is the path of our pilgrimage: from lies to truth. So we set out on this dusty road, full of perils but with a glorious destination.
These words describe the essence of every true pilgrimage: a journey from a place of distress to the place of the presence of God.
