“Let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone!”
—John 8:7b NLT
How easy it is to judge others. We live in a culture that loves to tear others down and destroy those we believe are wrong.
We play God and take the place of the Supreme Judge, declaring who is “good” and who is “bad.” We speak ill of others when they are not present, perhaps hoping that by putting others down we will seem better in comparison to them.
But all we end up accomplishing is destroying people Jesus died for on the cross.
Let us remember that Jesus, the only sinless person in the crowd that had gathered to see the woman caught in adultery, did not throw a stone but rather lent a hand to help the woman and give her another chance.
How different would our world be if everyone were so busy lifting others up that they didn’t have time to throw stones?
Here’s a simple prayer to carry with you today:
Breathe in: God, you are the Judge.
Breathe out: I am not.
