May 30: A Two-Way Street

“Answer me when I call, O God of my righteousness!
You have given me relief when I was in distress.
Be gracious to me and hear my prayer!”
—Psalm 4:1 ESV

Communication is a two-way street.

We speak (both verbally and non-verbally) and someone else responds.

It is a mistake to think that prayer is somehow different.

If we believe that God is real, truly real, then it is natural to believe that he can speak to us. Just like any real person would.

And so David, the author of this Psalm, calls to God and asks for an answer.

He wants to hear from God.

It is great to speak to God, but remember that prayer is more than that. It’s also about listening.

Take a moment to slow down and listen to God’s voice today.

His answers are ever-available if we are willing to quiet our soul and pay attention.

Here is a short prayer to help you invite God into every moment of your day:

Inhale: God,
Exhale: I’m listening.
