“Many are saying, ‘Who will show us anything good?’
Lift up the light of your face upon us, Lord!
You have put joy in my heart,
more than when their grain and new wine are abundant.”
—Psalm 4:6-7 NASB
There are many whose greatest good is “grain and new wine,” i.e. prosperity.
They feel well when things are going well.
But there is a joy that comes from something greater than the passing circumstances of life.
David’s cry in Psalm 4:6 is this: “Lift up the light of your face upon us, Lord!” The “light of God’s face” refers to his attention, his favor and his tangible presence.
Living in God’s presence is more valuable than any material blessing we could ever receive.
Today, may we declare with David, “You have put joy in my heart, more than when their grain and new wine are abundant.”
Here’s a short prayer to help you invite God into every moment of your day:
Inhale: You are with me.
Exhale: My joy is complete.
