“I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart;
I will recount all of your wonderful deeds.
I will be glad and exult in you;
I will sing praise to your name, O Most High.”
—Psalm 9:1-2 ESV
Memory is a powerful thing.
A memory, when brought to mind, can create nostalgia, joy, sorrow, anxiety, and a whole range of other strong emotions.
It all depends on what we’re remembering.
These verses encourage us to remember what God has done for us. To talk about it. To sing about it.
And to thank him for it.
Now, this is not a toxic positivity that ignores negative memories or acts like they never happened.
No, it is the choice to take a moment and thank God for his goodness regardless of our circumstances.
It does us good to remember.
Here is a short prayer to help you invite God into every moment of your day:
Inhale: With my whole heart, God,
Exhale: I thank you.
