“O Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!”
—Psalm 8:9 ESV
It might seem odd that the word “Lord” is repeated twice in this verse (and in the first verse as well).
In the Hebrew text, these are actually two different words: “Yahweh,” the personal name for God, and “Adonai,” our Lord.
And so we see, once again, the greatness and nearness of God.
He is Yahweh, the God of all creation.
And he is also Adonai, our Lord. One who takes the personal responsibility to lead and care for us.
And so, as we declare these words, we both glorify God and find refuge in him, the one whose name is “majestic in all the earth.”
Here is a short prayer to help you invite God into every moment of your day:
Inhale: God,
Exhale: You are my Lord.
