“I cried aloud to the Lord, and he answered me from his holy hill.”
—Psalm 3:4 ESV
I love those words because they remind me of the simplicity of prayer.
There is no pretense; no hoops to jump through. We simply cry out, and God answers.
Hebrews 11:6 puts it this way: “…whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.”
To draw near to God we just need to understand these basic truths:
One: God exists.
Two: He is listening.
Three: When we seek him we will find him (he is the reward).
How refreshing to know that God isn’t annoyed when we pray but actually loves to listen to our voice.
May we remember that truth in this busy and self-absorbed world where it often feels like no one is really listening.
Here is a simple prayer to carry with you today:
Breathe in: Lord, I cry to you.
Breathe out: I know you’re listening.
