“And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!’”
—Matthew 25:40 NLT
“You were doing it to me.”
Jesus identified himself with the “least of these”: the hungry, the naked, the stranger, the sick, the prisoner.
And he told us that when we help one such person, we are helping him.
We might see the person begging for spare change in a different light if we truly believed these words.
How would our world change if we stopped seeing “the least of these” as a nuisance to society and began to treat them as God in the flesh?
For when we help one such person, we are doing it for Jesus.
Here’s a simple prayer to carry with you today:
Breathe in: Jesus,
Breathe out: Open my eyes to see you.
