“If you, Lord, kept a record of sins, Lord, who could stand? But with you there is forgiveness, so that we can, with reverence, serve you.”
—Psalm 130:3-4 NIV
If God kept a record of sins, who could stand?
The implied answer to this rhetorical question is clear: no one. Not a single one of us, for all have sinned (see Romans 3:23).
But these verses offer us some good news: God does not keep a record of sins.
In an almost-too-good-to-be-true act of mercy, God has chosen to forget our sins (see Hebrews 8:12) and bring them to mind no more.
That means that we can draw close to God with confidence today.
Don’t hold back in shame, for with him there is forgiveness.
Here is a simple prayer to carry with you today:
Inhale: God,
Exhale: Thank you for forgiving me.
