“It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil; for he gives to his beloved sleep.”
—Psalm 127:2 ESV

The Bible praises hard work but condemns “anxious toil.”

What’s the difference?

Anxious toil (overwork) comes from a place of thinking that the results depend on us.

God has called us to work from a place of trust. From a place of confidence in his love and care for us.

“For he gives to his beloved sleep.”

When we realize that we are God’s beloved, we will be able to rest because we know that he will take care of us.

Here is a simple prayer to carry with you today:

Inhale: You love me;
Exhale: I can rest.
