“As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the Lord surrounds his people, from this time forth and forevermore. For the scepter of wickedness shall not rest on the land allotted to the righteous, lest the righteous stretch out their hands to do wrong.”
—Psalm 125:2-3 ESV
There is a reason that many international borders are located in the middle of a mountain range: mountains are very difficult to cross.
They are a natural defense against invasion, even in today’s high-tech world.
Psalm 125 describes God’s protection of his people just like that: an impassable mountain range surrounding them like the mountains that surround Jerusalem.
What does that mean for those of us who follow God and trust in him?
It means that whatever enemy we may be facing, we have the advantage because the Lord is protecting us.
And it is a fearful thing to fight against the Lord.
Take heart today.
Here is a simple prayer to carry with you today:
Inhale: God surrounds me like mountains;
Exhale: I will not fear.
