“Blessed be the Lord, who has not given us as prey to their teeth! We have escaped like a bird from the snare of the fowlers; the snare is broken, and we have escaped!”
—Psalm 124:6-7 ESV
I don’t consider myself a claustrophobic person, but I shudder at the idea of being caught in a net or a cage, with no way out and the knowledge that at any moment someone will arrive to take me to my death.
It’s a horrible thought.
And it is how the Psalmist describes their own predicament.
They were trapped and without hope.
But wonderfully, miraculously, the snare was broken. And almost as if they can’t fully believe it, they shout, “We have escaped!”
When we experience such miraculous salvation, the only reasonable thing we can do is “bless the Lord,” i.e. praise him.
Take a moment today to celebrate what God has done for you. Bless the Lord. Shout for joy.
It does us good to remember those things.
Here is a simple prayer to carry with you today:
Inhale: Blessed be the Lord;
Exhale: He has rescued me.
