The Lord is a stronghold for the oppressed,
a stronghold in times of trouble.
—Psalm 9:9 ESV

When we look at the injustice that occurs in our world, it is easy to think that victims of oppression have no one to take care of them. No one to defend them.

But these verses remind us of a key truth: God is a stronghold for the oppressed.

Long before we even thought of fighting for those who have no voice of their own, God was already dwelling among them.

This verse should also bring us hope when we are in “times of trouble.”

Remember: when you pass through difficult times, God is not far away. He is your ever-present help, your stronghold when all other ground is sinking sand.

Hold fast to this promise when all hope seems lost.

Here is a short prayer to help you invite God into every moment of your day:

Inhale: God,
Exhale: You are my stronghold.
