“The wicked shall return to Sheol,
all the nations that forget God.
For the needy shall not always be forgotten,
and the hope of the poor shall not perish forever.”
—Psalm 9:17-18 ESV
A great reversal is coming.
In this age, the wealthy and powerful seem so important. They have the most followers on social media and seem to be the center of attention.
But one day, the memory of those who seem most important now will perish (see v. 6).
And surprisingly, the “poor,” those who seem least important now, “shall not always be forgotten.”
As Jesus said, the day is coming when the last will be first (see Matt. 20:16).
With that in mind, let us pray for a more just world, and do so with hope.
For justice is not a vain idea, but a promise we can count on.
Here is a short prayer to help you invite God into every moment of your day:
Inhale: God,
Exhale: Bring justice.
