“And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
—Matthew 28:20b NLT
If nearly two years of a pandemic have taught us anything, it is this: almost nothing is certain.
This is not a new truth, but simply something that we can no longer avoid.
Here are a few realities that the pandemic highlighted:
One: Life is fleeting. The unexpected deaths of family, friends and loved ones have reminded us of this.
Two: Money comes and goes. The ups and downs of the economy, the job market and consumer prices have pointed this out.
Three: Our plans are not set in stone. We have learned not to say, “I’ll be traveling to Europe next summer,” but rather, “As long as no new travel restrictions are set…”
Like I said, almost nothing is certain.
Almost.
Matthew 28 reminds us that there is something we can be sure of: Jesus is with us.
Immanuel, God with us, was born in a manger and came close to us.
And before ascending to heaven he assured us: “I am with you always.”
Hold on to that truth today.
Here’s a simple prayer to carry with you today:
Breathe in: Jesus,
Breathe out: You are with me always.
