“Come, bless the Lord, all you servants of the Lord, who stand by night in the house of the Lord! Lift up your hands to the holy place and bless the Lord!”
—Psalm 134:1-2 ESV

Psalm 120, the first of the 15 Psalms of Ascent, described our pilgrimage: a journey from a place of distress to the place of God’s presence.

Psalm 134, the final song, describes what we do when we arrive at our destination.

We bless the Lord.

We praise him.

This psalm is short and simple because, frankly, the purpose of our pilgrimage isn’t complicated.

We all face troubles and hardships on the pilgrim road and have to process a range of emotions, from deep shame to intense joy.

But at the end of the day, when we stand face-to-face with God, there is only one thing we can do:

We bless the Lord because he is worthy of our praise.

Here is a simple prayer to carry with you today:

Inhale: God,
Exhale: I bless you.
